
Why 3D print a shifter bracket?
This shifter mount, like the P1Labs wheel base mount, is designed to allow the user to clamp their MOZA HPG shifter to their desk for cheap...as long as you have a 3D printer or a friend with a 3D printer. The files are free and all the necessary hardware is linked at the end of the article.
The total cost of this part was about $11 ( $6 in plastic + $5.00 for clamps). Other desk mount solutions are $40-$60. Admittedly they are probably better solutions, they are stiffer and more adjustable. I didn't want to cough up the extra dough because the desk setup is supposed to be temporary, so that I can drive while I design my rig.
Assembly and required hardware
This mount uses cheap C clamps that you can purchase from Amazon. They are flimsy but they do the job. You will need two (I purchased a 6 pack so that I have enough for the wheel base bracket as well). These clamps are limited to desks no thicker than 1.5 inches.
If you don't have hardware you will need four M6-1 X 12mm long screws. I like using the flanged ones like I linked below. Its a pack of 60 but if you have a rig you'll use these things all the time.

3D Printing
I wont lie, this print is challenging. You are essentially printing three large overhangs. To add to the difficulty I chose to do this in ABS. I wanted to avoid PLA because of PLA's tendency to creep. CF-PETG may be an ideal alternative because it does better with sustained loads and will also be stiffer. Stiffness was a bit of an issues with this design even with all the stiffening features that I added but it is totally usable. I haven't missed a gear or anything due to the flex.
For reference I printed with 5 walls using a .4mm nozzle. I used 20% rectilinear infill. The print orientation is key to minimize support material and helps prevent the bracket from splitting across a layer line.
To try and mitigate warping or bed adhesion issues, I modeled in support material, although that is difficult to remove so I included STL files with and without the modeled support material. As you can see from my pictures I had quite a bit of warping going on so use more support than you think you need.
